Needs revision

The meeting ended late we still finished the proposal.

✓

Revised

The meeting ended late, but we still finished the proposal.

Why the revision works

The original has two independent clauses with no grammatical boundary. Adding “but” with a comma makes the relationship clear.

FIX IT

Three checks to make in your own sentence.

  • Find where one complete thought ends and the next begins.
  • Choose a period, semicolon, or comma plus conjunction based on the relationship.
  • Read the revision aloud to make sure the sentence does not feel overloaded.
