Needs revision

The report is finished, I will send it this afternoon.

✓

Revised

The report is finished, and I will send it this afternoon.

Why the revision works

“The report is finished” and “I will send it this afternoon” are both independent clauses. Add a coordinating conjunction, use a semicolon, or split them into separate sentences.

FIX IT

Three checks to make in your own sentence.

  • Add a coordinating conjunction such as and, but, so, or yet.
  • Use a semicolon when the two ideas are closely related.
  • Split the clauses into two sentences when each idea deserves its own emphasis.

Check the real sentence, not just the example.
